DIVINE LUNGA says the Warriors are done living under the Africa Cup of Nations curse.
The defender declared Zimbabwe will not be packing early this time when they head to Morocco for next month’s AFCON finals.
Haunted by five straight group stage exits, the Warriors are in Saudi Arabia sharpening their claws ahead of tonight’s friendly against Algeria.
It’s a perfect test for new coach Mario Marina’s system. They take on Qatar five days later.
“We are assimilating a new system, but as a player, I am always ready and eager to represent my country,” said Lunga.
“The workouts have been gruelling, but we understand and appreciate that this is for our ultimate benefit.” He said the squad is slowly settling into Mario’s tactical rhythm and wants to send a message against Algeria.
“Algeria are not just an ordinary side, they are a powerhouse in Africa, which makes them the right candidates for us to implement our tactics,” said Lunga. “If we cause them problems, which we are very capable of, it will work as a confidence booster.
“It might be a friendly match, but it’s all we have for our preparations, so we will give it our best to get a positive result we all want.”
