ONCE bitten twice shy is what Mamelodi Sundowns would say as they try to maintain relations with their on-demand player Kudakwashe Mahachi who they feel is a player for the future.
The South African side initially bought the player from Chicken Inn in 2014 before they sold him to Durban side Golden Arrows after playing a few matches and picking an injury.
Now the team claims to have bought him back from Golden Arrows but there are indications that he might be on the move again because Kaizer Chiefs and a host of other teams have shown interest therefore Sundowns would make money out of him if the moves materialise.
a?He has been bought back by Sundowns,a? said club CEO Sizwe Nzimande.
They swooped on the player when he was declared a free agent while turning out for Golden Arrows.
a?Golden Arrows listened to our keen interest as such, because of a cordial relationship we have with them they didnat mind that we wanted him back,a? said Nzimande adding that they were after a a?win-wina? situation for all parties involved.
The decision to follow up on MahachiA by Sundowns was because of a similar situation with a player who they failed to benefit from.
a?At one time Keagan Dolly, a player who came from our academy was in a similar situation. He joined Ajax Cape Town, while there we had no choice but to buy him from them. That was after the playeras profile went up to become what we were looking for,a? he said.
It is not guaranteed that Mahachi will turn out for Sundowns this season because the team has reached its foreign quota and partly because they feel he is not yet ripe but has a bright future.
a?Players like him are good for the future.A He has age on his side (22). He can develop himself somewhere else and then once he is ready, maybe after a year, two or three he can then come back,a? he said.
Mahachi told B-Metro that he was fine with whatever decision his parent team would decide.
