We want to make history: DeMbare

Speaking at a press conference, which was held in the capital yesterday, the skipper was so bullish and playing mind games as he described their rivals as a team which wants to be Dynamos.

He challenged Monomotapa coach Biggie Zuze, a former DeMbare player and coach.

It was a presser and a half as Monomotapa coach and DeMbare skipper were also trading blows confidently leaving Rufaro the place to be tomorrow when all the talk at the conference is settled.

Maringwa, a veteran of many battles, who was once coached by Zuze at Dynamos juniors, is confident the Glamour Boys will carry the day.

“I think we will take the Cup as we are the champions and the flag bearers of Zimbabwean football. I believe Monomotapa is one of those teams that pretend to be Dynamos and they will always be pretenders.

“Zuze coached me at Dynamos juniors and he is my mentor, he knows the culture of this team, he taught us how to win and I am surprised he wants and is expecting his team to win.

“It’s always good to play against your mentor it is a privilege really.

“I know deep down in his heart he would want Dynamos to win.

“At Dynamos, we have always had a winning culture and having 19 titles is not a joke. To have won 19 titles is a tall order. Dynamos is an institution that is really difficult to frustrate,” said Maringwa.

Maringwa said after winning the inaugural Mbada Cup last year, they want to make the cup theirs and have a good record like what they have done in the league.

“Mbada Cup is now Mbada Dynamos Cup. We want to make it our own. And we want to have 19 titles if it may be.

“This is a wonderful tournament and we want to thank our sponsors. We are going to do well. We will do our best. Let it be a good game, a competitive one and we don’t want to easily trample over them,” said Maringwa.

The Glamour Boys went into camp yesterday with 22 players and will announce the final 18 tomorrow morning as they step up their preparations.

The match, if it ends with a stalemate, will see the teams going into extra time before going into penalties if it remains unchanged.

And while the skipper was gushing and exuding a lot of confidence stoking the flames, assistant coach Tonderai Ndiraya said they usually prefer to speak after a match has been played.

Ndiraya says their road to the final has been bumpy as they scrapped through in some of the matches such as the first round clash against Quelaton at Rufaro Stadium as they are ready to deliver.

“As coaches, we are much prepared. We will finish the preparations tomorrow. We have put in a lot of work so that we lift the cup and I am sure history is going to be made.

“I don’t want to hide my feelings, we want to win the Cup. I want to assure you we will get a positive result.

“We have had a difficult run in this tournament in terms of play but I am sure on Saturday we are going to organise ourselves and we will give you a good match.

“It is nice to play Monomotapa, they always give us a good run but at the end of the day one team will win.

“I have heard a lot of talk from Monomotapa but DeMbare is a big club and a big institution and just walking into Rufaro Stadium means a lot. Be rest assured that the cup would be in our cabin,” said Ndiraya.

Mbada Diamonds chief executive Patience Khumalo said they would continue to harness diamonds for the people by uplifting communities through development of sport.

“As Mbada, we are ready for the fun. The best teams this year have gotten to the final and we expect quality football. We have lots of entertainment and 5 000 T-shirts for the first 5 000 supporters.

“We have curtain-raisers from St John’s Preparatory of Borrowdale versus Mhizha Primary School from Highfield. We have the King of Sungura Alick Macheso to entertain crowds. We will continue harnessing diamonds for the people by uplifting communities through development of sport in Zimbabwe. We would like to thank all stakeholders for making this second edition a success,” said Khumalo.

The sponsors also revealed that the team which wins the cup will donate 50 wheelchairs, 50 patient trolleys, beds among other hospital utensils to Mutare Provincial Hospital.

And the players and all the members of the team will tour the hospital and have time to interact with the patients and sign get well soon cards.
