MIGHTY Warriors forward Anita Ncube has called on Zimbabwean football supporters to remain steadfast in their backing of the national team, insisting the players are determined to deliver performances worthy of that loyalty.

Ncube, speaking as the team continued its preparations for the upcoming tournament in Lilongwe, stressed that the players felt the weight of expectation but were equally motivated to meet it.

“My call is for the fans to keep on supporting us,” she said. “They won’t be disappointed; we want to play well.”

Her appeal underlined the squad’s awareness of the long, uncertain period Zimbabwean women’s football has endured, and the responsibility the players feel to restore confidence among supporters.

“We know what the fans expect of us. We appreciate their support, and we want to give them something to be proud of.”

Thirty players are in camp in Harare as Zimbabwe kicks off preparations for the competition, which was initially scheduled as a Four Nations Tournament.

They have endured months without meaningful action, making this camp a valuable opportunity for consistent training and team building.

Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and South Africa were originally listed for the event set for November 29 to December 2 at Bingu National Stadium.

Zimbabwe and Zambia have confirmed their participation, while Malawi indicated that South Africa were still finalising their involvement. South Africa has since withdrawn, turning the event into a three-nation tournament, but the Mighty Warriors remain focused.

This will be only the second international assignment for Zimbabwe’s women’s team since they faced Angola in a WAFCON qualifier earlier this year.

The return to regular international football is something the players and technical team have long awaited.
