Nyatanga Wedza South Constituency finals gets underway this weekend.
The tournament was established in 2000 and has is improving each year.
This year’s edition will see both primary and secondary schools taking part in boys and girls’ soccer and netball tournaments.
The tournament was used as a platform to expose the talents of Tafadzwa Maingire and Bevan Chirere.
The draw has seen defending champions and hosts Anderson and their bitter rivals St Margaret avoiding each other in the semi-final and it’s likely that they could clash again in the final.
Anderson were the underdogs in last year’s senior boys’ soccer final against St Margaret who were chasing a record fourth title.
The hosts face St Anne’s Goto while two-time winners St Margaret take on St Henry.
Last year the tournament was graced by several football coaches, including Moses Chunga, and Zimbabwe Soccer Supporters Association leader Eddie “Mboma” Nyatanga.
A total of 48 schools, both primary and secondary, took part in this year’s qualifying rounds of the tournament.
The tournament’s management committee chairman Bozwell Mudoti believes the tournament will be bigger and better this year after celebrating their 10th anniversary last year.
“This year we expect a good final as we have managed to incorporate several individuals and corporates.
The tournament is the brainchild of former Zifa president Wellington “Shumba” Nyatanga.
