AUGUST concluded in spectacular fashion for Harare’s arts and entertainment scene, turning the capital into a vibrant festival city.

The final weekend was a whirlwind of events, featuring everything from the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, Zimbabwe Achievers Awards, Edgars Fashion Extravaganza Show to high-energy concerts led by some of the country’s most celebrated music artistes.

This culmination of activities not only delighted revellers, but also signalled a renewed hunger for live performances and cultural celebrations across Zimbabwe.

The rich diversity of events, combined with the sheer size of the audiences, was remarkable.

Traditionally, August is a bustling month on the entertainment calendar, but this year exceeded all expectations, showcasing the powerful role that music plays in uniting people.

Some sources reported groundbreaking attendance figures at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show on its closing day, transforming the iconic grounds into a hub of fun and entertainment.

Music lovers were treated to an unforgettable performance by Jah Prayzah, who captivated the audience with his magnetic stage presence. Known for his ability to connect with fans, Jah Prayzah delivered a set that had everyone singing and dancing along, creating an electric atmosphere. By the time he left the stage, the crowd was clamouring for more—a testament to his enduring appeal and the vital role such performances play in uplifting the national spirit.

Of course it would not be Agricultural Show without fireworks; the ZAS ended in style with thousands cheering and enjoying the fun.

Not far from the Agricultural Showgrounds, another musical firestorm was brewing at Alexandra Sports Club, where Zimdancehall singer Winky D headlined a concert that drew many crowds.

The self-styled “Gaffa” lived up to his reputation, serving up hit after hit to an ecstatic audience. Rising stars like Nisha T, Bazooker and Bling 4, among others brought their A-game, ensuring that the show was par excellence.

The atmosphere was electric, and the synergy among the performers made it one of the most memorable concerts of the year.

Hosted by the charismatic duo radio personalities, KVG and Merciless, the concert flowed seamlessly, further enhancing the audience’s experience. Dubbed Tete’a tete, the event showcased how collaboration between established and upcoming artists can elevate the entire music scene. If Alexandra Sports Club was electric, the City Sports Stadium was volcanic.

The Zimdancehall Sting Cup Clash, an annual showdown for bragging rights, attracted maximum attendance, with thousands filling the stadium.

This event transcended mere competition; it provided a crucial platform for upcoming artists to showcase their skills to a massive audience.

For many, this was a career-defining opportunity, a chance to shine in the spotlight. The highlight of the night came when upcoming chanter Mugo Vybes emerged victorious, walking away with a residential stand courtesy of Prophet Kudakwashe Joseph.

This was more than just a prize; it symbolised how art can transform lives and serve as a springboard for future success. The energy in the stadium was palpable, reflecting the community’s passion for music and performance.

Behind the scenes, one man’s efforts stood tall: veteran promoter Patson Chimbodza affectionately known as Chipaz. He managed to pull off a historic feat by orchestrating two major shows within the same weekend—Winky D’s concert at Alexandra Sports Club and the Sting Cup Clash at City Sports Stadium.

His ability to coordinate such large-scale events demonstrated not only his experience, but also the growing capacity within Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry. Organising even one blockbuster show is a challenge; doing two simultaneously and achieving impressive turnouts speaks volumes about the maturity of the sector.

In addition to music, August resonated with excellence as the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) returned home for the first time in 15 years.

Held at Manna Resorts, this historic homecoming transformed the awards into a powerful reunion of Zimbabweans, both local and in the diaspora. The two-day event began with a high-level Diaspora Forum that brought together global thought leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers for strategic discussions on investment and inclusive growth.

It culminated in a glamorous awards gala celebrating trailblazers across various sectors, including business, media, arts and philanthropy.

Among the distinguished voices at the event was the UK Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Ambassador Pete Vowles.

In his keynote address, he reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Zimbabwe through dialogue and sustainable investment.
