WELL DONE ZIM, OUR HOSTING OF ICC U-19 WORLD CUP IS A SUCCESS

ZIMBABWE’S successful hosting of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup stands as a proud moment for the nation and a powerful statement about its growing capacity to stage major international sporting events.

The tournament offered a refreshing and positive narrative—one that highlighted professionalism, hospitality, and national unity through sport.

From the outset, we demonstrated strong organisational competence.

Match venues were well prepared, playing surfaces met international standards, and logistical arrangements for teams officials, and supporters were efficiently handled.

Despite limited resources, compared to traditional cricketing powerhouses, we have delivered a tournament that ran smoothly, with minimal disruptions.

This alone speaks volumes about the dedication of the local organisers, volunteers, and cricket administrators who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure success.

One of the most impressive aspects of the tournament was our hospitality.

Visiting teams and officials and the fans, usually family members of the players, have consistently praised the warmth and friendliness they experienced throughout their stay.

For young players, many of whom were visiting Africa for the first time, the experience went beyond cricket.

They were exposed to our culture, history, and natural beauty, helping to reshape perceptions and build lasting memories. Such soft diplomacy is invaluable, as it strengthens international relationships and enhances the country’s global image.

The tournament also had a significant impact on local cricket development.

Hosting the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup inspired a new generation of young Zimbabweans to take an interest in the sport.

Seeing peers from around the world compete at a high level on home soil made elite cricket feel more attainable.

Schools, clubs, and academies benefited from renewed enthusiasm, and the exposure provided a boost to grassroots development, which is essential for the long-term growth of the game.Economically, the event brought modest but meaningful benefits.

Hotels, transport operators, food suppliers, and small businesses experienced increased activity during the tournament.

While the Under-19 World Cup may not generate the same revenue as senior global events, its value lies in long-term returns—improved infrastructure, enhanced skills among local professionals, and increased confidence in Zimbabwe as a host nation.

Importantly, the tournament fostered national pride. Zimbabweans from different backgrounds are all united in agreeing that we have delivered a tournament that matched expectations of the world and that is a huge PLUS for is.

It reminded all of us of our ability to achieve excellence when working together toward a common goal.

Our successful hosting of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup was more than a sporting achievement; it was a national milestone.

The tournament showcased competence, resilience, and hospitality, while leaving a positive legacy for youth development and international engagement. It proved that Zimbabwe can deliver on the global stage and, given continued support and investment, can host even bigger events in the future.

Well done Zimbabwe Cricket.

Well done to every Zimbabwean who played his or her part to ensure that this tournament was a success.
