This year, participants included Bulawayo’s Fit and Furious club, Kadoma’s Odyssey club, Gweru, Kwekwe, Zvishavane and Masvingo runners clubs.

Companies that align their organisational goals with wellness, such as Glow Petroleum, Gramlex, Unki mines, Maisukume medical village, CBZ Bank, ZERA, Midlands Christian School, Midlands Urology Centre, Lancet Laboratories, Generation Health, Bata, iGO, FastOne Steel, Remembrance Funeral Services, Toyota Gweru, Medyf Pharmacies and Midlands Orthopedics Centre came on board as participants and major sponsors of the event.

Unki mine general manager, Mr Walter Nemasasi walked away with the wellness leadership award, Glow Petroleum as the best wellness supporting company, CBZ scooped the best supporting bank and Kwekwe Runners Club emerged as the fastest growing Runners Club among other individuals who also scooped various awards.

In an interview on the sidelines of the event, event organiser Chouenlai Chindanga said the goal of the event is to promote health and wellness, which is also against drug and substance abuse among youths.

“This programme is inclusive in terms of age, gender, race as well as occupation. Our main goal is to promote wellness and a healthy lifestyle among Zimbabweans, which is also in line with the National Development Strategy.

“The benefits are far-reaching, which include taking out youths from drug and substance abuse, addressing issues of obesity and in general, fitness is a prevention measure of various diseases. We firmly believe that a healthy and fit person is also a productive person, so we can’t be a productive nation when our population is not fit and well,” he said.

He added; “This marked the beginning of future events which we are planning to host annually around this same time of the year. Next event will be hosted by another province, so that we spread the gospel of health and wellness across the country.”

Chindanga extended an invitation to all willing participants and encouraged them to join fitness and wellness clubs in their cities, stating that it is also for personal benefit.

“These clubs are more than welcome to work with anyone, so I want to encourage anyone to join, it’s for your own health and wellness,” he stated.
