ZIFA Central Region Division One side West Nicholson are a club riding a wave of optimism after Black Lions president Tendani Sebata pledged his full backing for the team.

Black Lions compete in the Botswana Premier Soccer League, and Sebata is a Zimbabwean businessman based in the western neighbouring country, where he has been actively involved in football development.

“I would like to thank the Mayor of Gwanda and all the councillors for gracing the West Nicholson kit unveiling ceremony. I have been working with West Nicholson for the past few years, they have been coming to Botswana to use our facilities. We are very keen to continue supporting this club, a club which has got talent,” said Sebata in a TikTok video that has been widely circulating.

He added: “May their new kit that they got come with a lots of luck for them. The boys will need to play well, Black Lions will be available to support you. Other stakeholders in the community should also assist with resources. I’m very much interested in getting a few players from West Nicholson who can come and play at Black Lions meaning the players will need to work hard. In terms of their pre-seasons they can come to Botswana. To the supporters lets by their replicas.”

West Nicholson FC officially launched their new kit last week at a hotel in Gwanda, with football legend Madinda Ndlovu gracing the occasion as guest of honour.

The kit has been designed for use during the 2026 season and reflects the club’s identity, values and growing ambition as it seeks to establish itself firmly within the competitive structures of regional football.

The transition from West Nicholson Academy to West Nicholson FC marks a significant new chapter for the club, with the new kit symbolising its official status and reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a strong and sustainable value footprint.

Sebata was recently in the country, where he also paid a courtesy call on Talen Vision FC patron Elton Sinyosi, further strengthening football ties and dialogue between local clubs and regional stakeholders.

“We had a lot of discussions that boarded around our home topics and football. He actually shared a lot of visionary things with regards to football and I must say I learnt a lot from him. His side has been doing well in Botswana and I think as Talen Vision, we are destined to learn a lot from him,” said Sinyosi.

Talen Vision FC is bankrolled by Trukumb Mining Private Limited, a business entity that has played a significant role in transforming the Filabusi community over the years.
