Afro jazz sensation Edith Katiji, better known as Edith WeUtonga, is working on her debut live DVD recording due for release in May this year. The talented bassist told The Herald Entertainment that she is working on a fresh project.“l chose to do something unique this year and I am pretty sure my fans are going to like this live DVD l am working on.
“l have got a few videos and most of my fans have been asking for more ,that is why l have finally decided to come up with this,” she said.
The DVD, which will carry various tracks, is expected to be approximately 90 minutes long.
“The DVD will have about 10 tracks like “Chipendani” and “Mukaranga” off my previous albums including some of my collabo tracks.
“It will be about 90 minutes long and it won’t just be music but it will have some interludes,” she said.
WeUtonga intends to make more collaborations with local and international artistes.
“I am really eager to make some partnership with other local and international musicians.
“It’s only that resources can become a hindrance. I hope to produce an album of collaborations tracks only,” she said.
The artiste has also cast a blame on promoters who neglect female artistes most of the time.
“It’s a fact that music promoters are not equally supporting female artistes as compared to our male counterparts but we are trying to do things on our own and make some collaborations.
Apart from music WeUtonga is also an actress.
WeUtonga was a student at Amakhosi Theatre School and came to Harare after her talent was spotted by the popular jazz artiste Tanga Wekwa Sando who took her as one of his backing vocalists.
She then decided to form her own band to show the world her talent with her younger sister Fatima Katiji and she released her debut album in 2010 titled “Edith WeUtonga” followed by “Kwacha “ she released in June last year.
