What a turnaround

IT’S still early days in the domestic Premiership campaign but, some things, are worth talking about.

CAPS United find themselves top of the table, with a four-point cushion from a chasing pack led by champions Scottland.

There are no PSL games this coming weekend, because of the international break, and this means that the Green Machine will still be on top next week.

Even if they lose their next match, and the chasing pack wins, CAPS United will remain on top by a point.

It’s good to be a Green Machine fan right now and, to be fair, the five-time champions are just reaping the rewards from the way they prepared for this campaign.

By October last year, they had signed many of their targets, including coach Takesure Chiragwi, and they went to Malawi for what was an effective bonding session.

The results have been stunning, at least, so far this season.

Four wins in four starts have taken the CAPS United fans into Dreamland.

To fully appreciate the stunning turnaround, one just needs to look at the CAPS United campaign last season.

They have 12 points from four games.

Last year, after four games, CAPS had four points from one win and a draw and two losses.

This means they have gained a massive eight points when compared to the same opening four games last year.

CAPS United had 11 points in their first 12 league games last year and now they have 12 points from their first four games.

It took the Green Machine 14 games for them to finally get past the 12-point mark, something which they have just achieved in just the first four league games.

It took the Green Machine 15 games to win four league games last season.

It has taken them just the opening four games to win the same number of games this season.

The results were so miserable last year that between the second and seventh league games of last season, CAPS United lost five league games in a row.

This means that by the seventh game of the campaign last year, the Green Machine had just four points, picked in their first two games of the season.

Now, just four games into the new campaign, they have a DOZEN points.

The poor run last season meant that they even flirted with relegation before securing their place in the PSL.

Their fans will be hoping that the flying start this season means CAPS United will not be dealing with relegation issues but the championship this season.

History also appears to be kind to them.

They have a tendency of winning the championship, especially in the year that finishes with the number SIX.

Steve Kwashi and his supermen won the title in 1996, the first time the Green Machine won it after Independence.

They failed to win it in 2006, which would have represented a Triple Crown, after having won the title in 2004 and 2005.

They won it again in 2016 under Lloyd Chitembwe.

  1. All these stats count for nought in football . Ask MOWS of last season or track Arsenal during the last few seasons of the English League. Four games out of thirty four and some over excited people already see brilliance? Logical people celebrate titles not the road to titles. Imagine writing about brilliant performance as a marathon runner leaves the starting blocks. It’s naive, isn’t it?
