Pauline Matanda
Some say you only truly begin to appreciate a man’s character through the eyes of those who surround him. It was in this light that I approached a few Zimpapers employees to give me a few words about their CEO after he was named Megafest Business Awards Top CEO of the Year.
What an insight it proved to be.
Darlick Marandure: Chief Technology Officer — “A well-deserved award for his visionary leadership”
Congratulations to the boss…a well-deserved award for his visionary leadership!!! We will continue to support the implementation of his vision so that Zimpapers not only continues to be the leading media house but also grows into a fully integrated media house.
Farai Matanhire: Chief Finance Officer— “Champion of innovation”
PD is a champion of innovation who believes in tapping new ground all the time.
Tapuwa Mandimutsira: Chief Marketing Officer — “He is an inspiration”
Anatole France once said to accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe. Congratulations to our Group Chief Executive on being awarded CEO of the year which is a reflection of his desire to set new bench marks in the media industry, inspire and motivate those he leads.
Hatred Zenenga: Manica Post Editor — “The man has a winning formula”
In our hearts you have always been a winner. You have this rare quality to see what is not working and quickly bring new thinking and action. The Megafest CEO of the Year 2016 award serves as confirmation of your leadership qualities in guiding and taking the Zimpapers group to another level. We have learnt a lot from your leadership style. Well done Mr PD. Wishing you abundant success in future.
Elizabeth Mushonga: Manica Post Sales and Distribution Manager — “The award is well-deserved”
My heartfelt congratulations to Mr P Deketeke for landing the Megafest CEO of the Year 2016 award. His success is borne out of effort and dedication and is therefore well-deserved. May the light of the Lord continue to guide you as you captain this great ship.
Leander Kandiero: Diamond FM Station Manager — “He has a laugh you cannot ignore”
The man with a laugh you cannot ignore. That big laugh is a reflection of his inclusive and accommodating spirit. That spirit allows him to hear out ideas from everyone. I believe that is a mark of a great leader who has undoubtedly led the most successful media group in the country convincingly. Well done sir.
Comfort Mbofana: Star FM General Manager — “The ship has a great captain”
He is an inspiring leader who motivates us to do our best. The ship has a great captain and can only go far. Proud to be a member of the winning team.
Njabulo Nkomo: Natprint General Manager — “A worthy recipient of the prestigious award.”
I congratulate Mr Deketeke for landing the Megafest CEO of the Year 2016 award. This comes as no surprise to me as he is indeed a worthy recipient of the prestigious award. The culture of innovation and thinking far from the box that permeates the Group today is testament to his transformational leadership and the realization of the integrated media house vision is evidence of a leader whose commitment to an ideal has been a call to action to all around him. Congratulations are in order
Patrick Shamba: Kwayedza Editor — “We are very proud to have such a leader”
I would like to congratulate our Group CEO Mr Deketeke and the entire Zimpapers family. Such an accomplishment is not only exciting but also a motivation to us and we are very proud to have such a leader. Makorokoto Chief!
Lawrence Moyo: H-Metro Editor — ‘‘We are privileged to have him”
We are privileged to have a CEO of a media firm who has a journalistic background. He is one man who has earned his worth, rising through the ranks from junior reporter to CEO.
As H-Metro in particular, we know for a certainty that our paper is his baby and there would be no H-Metro to talk of without Mr Pikirayi Deketeke. He continues to oversee the births of new products at Zimpapers to maintain its grand status and continual growth in the print and electronic media industry and we want to congratulate him for all his efforts.
Richard Rupiya: CEO’s Driver — ‘‘That man is God fearing and a devoted Christian’’
I first worked with Mr Deketeke in 1987 when he was a reporter. Drivers and reporters work hand in hand in gathering news. I saw him rise to become Sunday Mail News Editor, then Deputy Editor for The Herald and then Editor of The Herald. Working together, we developed a strong relationship that led me to know even his family members.
I know everyone in his family and even assisted during his wedding. As his driver we spend a lot of time together and in those moments, we mostly discuss the gospel of Jesus Christ. That man is God fearing and devoted Christian.
Jackson Dzirutwe: Research and Business Development Assistant — ‘‘He is an open minded leader.’’
Our CEO, Mr PD is a visionary leader who is open minded and ready to listen to innovative ideas not only from the top hierarchy but from the last person in the structure of the organisation. That is an awesome trait.
Abigail Zvinavashe: Harare Branch Bookkeeper — “He is sympathetic & a man of integrity”
Mr Deketete is full of empathy. He is someone who offers a friendly ear to people with problems. He is also a good listener. Furthermore he is sociable, tidy, very neat and well organised. He is a principled man who is full of integrity.
Archibold Magaya: Office Orderly — “He is considerate”
Mr Deketeke is a very considerate and understanding boss. He understands employees at all levels even “vepasi-pasi”.
Locadia Matsvaire: Sub Editor — “What an ethical man he is”
For the time I have known Mr Dekekete, working with him directly or indirectly, one thing has stood out; that man is ethical and amazingly consistent.
He freely displays his Christianity by remaining humble and generous, placing other people’s needs before him and remains approachable to people from all walks of life despite his rank. I wish him success upon success.
Tarisai Gwatiringa: Senior Sub Editor — “He has people at heart”
It is a blessing to have a man who believes in God Almighty leading the Zimpapers brand… one gets a sense of peace and trust… for every decision and investment keep looking to Him. He has rose through the ranks and that is a trait that makes him have the people at heart.
Nyasha Chigodora: PA to the CEO — “This comes as no surprise to me”
The news of my boss winning the Megafest Business Awards Top CEO of the Year did not come as a surprise to me as it was a well-deserved recognition of his hard work. Indeed it was a proud moment for us. Surely God had remembered him. I have always known Pikirayi Deketeke as a leader who clearly articulates the vision of making Zimpapers a fully integrated Media House. He has worked tirelessly towards that goal over the years. Having worked with him from the time he was Deputy Editor of The Herald I have seen him climb up the corporate ladder to where he is today. The award is indeed a symbol of his hard work.
