Ndabezinhle Khanye (27) of Sizinda suburb in Bulawayo stole a cellphone at a funeral and changed the gadgeta��s WhatsApp number.
Silly guy didna��t know the change would show on all WhatsApp groups that the owner of the phone was part of.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Khanyea��s arrest. He has since appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Abednico Ndebele charged with theft.
He pleaded guilty.
He was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment with an option of a fine of $70 before 31 October 2016.
The phone was worth $35.
The magistrate lambasted him for stealing from mourners adding that he had invited bad luck on himself.
It is reported that Khanye stole Phineas Mpofua��s phone at a funeral gathering in Entumbane.
The incident took place on 8 September at around 3am as the complainant had fallen asleep and Khanye searched him taking away his Nokia X2 cellphone that was in his pocket.
He managed to sneak out unnoticed but ran out of luck when his contact details were disclosed on Mpofua��s Whatsapp group after changing the phonea��s WhatsApp number.
The group members knowing what had transpired alerted Mpofu and the matter was reported to the police leading to Khanyea��s arrest.
Khanye was contacted by an investigating officer from Tshabalala Police Station and he handed himself over. .
