CORRECTIONAL services side Whawha powered to the top of the Zifa Central Soccer League after a convincing 4-2 win over visiting Blanket Mine.
A hat-trick by Albert “Dracula” Matewu and a solitary strike by Leslie Makusha ensured that the Gweru-based side collected maximum points.
Matewu’s three-goal haul saw him climbing to the top of the goalscorers’ charts with 12 goals.
Whawha are now on 25 points, a point clear of second placed Tongogara who drew 1-1 with Vumbachikwe.

Despite Whawha’s fine run, the side’s mentor Luke Petros-Jukulile refused to wear the championship favourites tag and said his side was playing to compete.
Whawha are yet to lose a match on the field of play but lost to Tongogara 3-0 on a technicality as they had not settled affiliation fees. In other matches Chrome Stars clobbered Nkayi United 3-0. The chrome miners had gone for three consecutive games without a win.

A day later, there was a five-goal harvest at the same venue after visiting border town side, ZRP Beitbridge pummelled Zvishavane Stars 5-0.
