THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched a desperate search for the family of Milton Gumbo, a 32-year-old Zimbabwean man who died in a South African prison, whose body has been lying unclaimed for months.
Milton, believed to have been born in Bulawayo and raised in Luveve, was serving time at Nelspruit Correctional Centre in Mpumalanga when he passed away on September 17, 2024.
With no one coming forward to claim him, authorities are now turning to the public for help.
“We are appealing to anyone who may know Milton Gumbo’s family or relatives to contact the nearest police station,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele.
The late Milton was said to have been staying with his brother, Crymore Gumbo, before leaving for South Africa.
“What we know is that he was born on August 25, 1992, and had lived in Luveve with his sibling before relocating. We need the family to help finalise repatriation and burial processes,” Insp Msebele added.
Police are urging anyone with information, especially from Bulawayo or Luveve, to step forward so Milton can finally rest in peace, with dignity.
Do you know the Gumbo family? Help give Milton the send-off he deserves.
