WHO’LL GUARD THE GUARDS?. . . Two Securico guards in court for theft

TWO Securico guards were hauled to court for conniving to steal BancABC property worth US$20 000.

Abel Mazhindu and Maxwell Murambiwa, both 47 years old, were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare Magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure.

They will be back in court today for their bail application.

Allegations are that between October and this month, the duo, who were deployed at BancABC Mount Pleasant branch, hatched a plan to steal from the bank.

It is alleged that Mazhindu and Murambiwa would disable the door by putting a stumbling block to prevent it from completely closing. This was a way to make it easy for Tafadzwa Tabulu, who is still on the run, to gain entry.

Tabulu got away with three connectors, a Samsung tablet, five-terabyte hard disk drives, six central processing units and three HP ProBook laptops.

It is alleged Tabulu also stole four Lenevo Yoga laptops and four Lenovo ThinkPads.

The matter came to light when BancABC security manager, Tendai Nzombe viewed CCTV footage and saw Tabulu entering the IT room, packing the loot in his bag and walking away.

Mazhindu and Murambiwa were interrogated by Nzombe, and they admitted to the offence.

They, however, denied the charges in court.

Zebedia Bofu appeared for the State.
