BENNI McCarthy was caught on camera having a heated exchange with his Zimbabwean coach, Kaitano Tembo, in Durban on Tuesday night.
The spectacular fallout comes just days after the AmaZulu coach said his team will now walk into a ‘’jungle,’’ when they travel to Malawi, for a CAF Champions League match.
Usuthu are set to take on Callisto Pasuwa’s Nyasa Big Bullets, in the reverse fixture, after a shock 0-1 home loss, in the first match in Durban.
McCarthy looks a frustrated man, after a tough start to the season, which wasn’t helped by a goalless draw, in a league match, against Kaitano’s SuperSport United, this week.
Usuthu had Tercious Malepe sent off in the 74th minute.
In the latest controversy, surrounding McCarthy, he was caught on camera, in a heated confrontation, with his Zimbabwean counterpart.
“I’ve lost every last second of respect I had for you,” McCarthy could be heard, shouting in the direction of Tembo.
“That’s why you’re broke! You’re career… Seven Stars, Ajax (Cape Town).
“You want to get deep then I’ll get deep.”
McCarthy’s men fell to a 0-1 defeat, at the hands of Malawi champions Bullets, on Friday, in a Champions League match.
The coach was caught on camera ordering a Bullets player to ‘’s**t up,’’ as he conducted his pitch-side interview.
“It was a horror show for me,” he said. “We were nowhere close to our best.
“When you play the way we did, and you don’t have a desire to score goals, you won’t have a chance.
“You look at the opposition, they did nothing in the game.
‘’They played to their strength and played for free-kicks and they put the ball in the blocks and used their physicality, and then, yeah, they got away with one (goal).
“For me, I think it was a disastrous game.
‘’Now we have to go to the jungle (for the away leg), we have to go to a very difficult place looking to win away from home, which not many teams have done.
‘’“This team (Big Bullets) creates absolutely nothing. One long ball and then they win the game.
‘’’How’s that possible?’ you ask yourself?
‘’Is it the injustice of football? It’s not, it’s injustice.’’
Pasuwa’s men played for about 50 minutes, with a one-man handicap, after left-back Yamikani Fodya was sent off.
Pasuwa warned the battle was not over.
“The boys did well. They solidly defended that goal. As you know there will be no supporters in the stadium. So it’s 50-50,’’ he said.
‘’We need to do more at home if we are to go through. We will not sit back and defend the one goal we scored.’’ – Sports Reporter/TimesLive/KickOff.com
