Widow, transporter in row over truck sale

A LOCAL transporter is at loggerheads with a widow over a truck she claims was her source of income.

June Williams, 54, told H-Metro that Hope Zimure tricked her into selling her Forden 410 horse truck to him for US$2 500, five years ago.

“Zimure has affected my life and that of my grandchildren by forcing me to sell my truck that was bringing food on the table,” said Williams.

“I used to hire the truck out for US$400 a month but Zimure lured me into selling it to him for peanuts.

“It had developed a minor fault and he took the truck and only gave me US$1 000 five years ago.

“He never came back and he blocked my number and is yet to pay me the balance of US$1 500.”

She added:  “I do not think he is being cruel to me only considering the way he duped me.

“I have been to several police stations with my case, but he seems to have fooled them in a way I don’t understand.

“I want justice to take its course.

“I feel betrayed, abused and duped because Zimure knew that my husband, who’d left the truck for the family, had passed on.”

Zimure confirmed buying the truck from Williams, saying he dumped the truck in Epworth, and opted to get a refund.

“It is true that I bought the horse truck from June sometime back,” said Zimure.

“I paid her US$1 000 and later decided to sell the truck to someone who wanted it for US$2 000.

“I took the truck and parked it at my garage in Msasa along Mutare Road.

“The garage space became a challenge and I took it to a place in Epworth where it is now.

“June called me some months ago asking for US$200, but I couldn’t give her.

“She had lodged a police report against me, but the officer informed her that I had no case to answer

“I am aware that the truck was June’s only source of income since she is a widow,” said Zimure.
