Widower beats up cheating girlfriend

domestic violence court

A WIDOWER from Filabusi in Matabeleland South told a court how he was disappointed by a Binga woman who cheated on him with another man despite having been told that Binga women were well mannered and good for marriage.

Harvey Nkomo (59) of 801 Bekezela Township in Filabusi said he embarked on a long journey from his area to Binga where he found Ms Ives Mudimba (30).

He said he would visit his girlfriend and they would have sexual intercourse on several occasions as he planned to marry her.

All hell broke loose in March this year when Nkomo visited his “sweetheart” at DDF Compound in Binga but could not sleep with her after she told him she was having her menstrual periods.

Nkomo, who said his first wife died a few years ago, said he was infuriated after the woman disappeared and slept out at the other boyfriend’s place when he visited her in March this year. The two had a misunderstanding which resulted in Nkomo slapping the complainant. The complainant opened a case of domestic violence against him.

Nkomo pleaded guilty to domestic violence saying he was infuriated because he had invested heavily in the complainant who had earlier lied to him that she was pregnant with his child.

Binga magistrate Ms Ailene Munamati fined Nkomo $50 and further sentenced him to two months in jail, which was wholly suspected for five years.
When asked by the magistrate whether he still loved the woman after what she had done to him, Nkomo said he had committed himself to her and still loved her.

“I am a widower and have been in love with the complainant for more than a year. I heard that in Binga there are good responsible women and that’s why I came to look for a woman.

“She phoned me saying she was pregnant and I have been sending her money for upkeep and to buy preparation. I decided to visit her on March 11 and I was shocked to notice that she was not pregnant when she welcomed me at the bus stop,” said Nkomo. He said upon quizzing Ms Mudimba, she lied that she had a miscarriage.

“In the evening she disappeared and I spent the night alone at her place of residence. She came back in the morning and told me she had slept at her sister’s place.

“When I quizzed her further she said she had slept at her other boyfriend’s house because he satisfies her in bed more than me. I got angry because in the evening before she left she had told me that we couldn’t have sex because she was on her menstrual periods,” said Nkomo.

Nkomo then slapped Ms Mudimba.

Nkomo was arrested after Ms Mudimba reported to the police.
