A MINER from Zvishavane beat up his wife for sending him to the shops because he felt it was a sign of disrespect.

Regis Mabwinya (51) decided to teach his wife Rachel Mhatso a life lesson as he beat her up with open hands before using a pistol.

Mabwinya first went on a drinking spree before coming home to make his wife pay for her earlier sin.

He told her that he wanted to end her bad habits of treating him like a child to the extent of sending him to the shops.

Mabwinya appeared before Shepherd Mjanja facing charges of domestic violence.

The court heard that on 14 October 2018, the accused arrived at his home at around 9pm from a beer hall.

He then had a misunderstanding with his wife as he complained that she was treating him like a child and always sending him to the shops.

Mabwinya started beating the woman with open hands then took out his pistol and used its back to hit her on the face.

She sustained a deep cut on the face and a swollen eye as a result of the beating.

Mabwinya pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to 27 February.
