Wife divorced for sharing food with neighbours

A 49-YEAR-OLD man from Lusaka, Zambia, divorced his wife of 20 years for sharing food with their neighbours.

George Phiri took his wife Tanta Zulu to court for divorce. Phiri told the court that his wife had a tendency of giving food to their neighbours at the expense of their children.

In defence, Zulu told the court that her husband was so stingy and strict that he would measure food in the house before leaving.

She testified that her husband would beat her up whenever he returned home and discovered that she cooked food without his permission.

In passing judgment, the magistrate noted that the reason for the couple’s divorce was baseless. However, since the plaintiff insisted that he did not want his wife, the court eventually granted the divorce.

Son brutally murders mum for alleged spell

Imagine discovering that your manhood frequently disappears and reappears, and after consulting a traditional healer, you are told it is your mother who is behind this.

This is the story of Sumayili Juma (34) from Kalima Village in Binga, Matabeleland North province, who ended up axing his mother Josephine Njinjwe (67) to death.

According to a family member who declined to be named, Juma, whose life has been upside down, reportedly consulted a prophet who revealed to him that his mother was the one behind the mysterious disappearance and appearance of his manhood.

It is reported that recently, while Njinjwe was sitting in the kitchen hut with other family members, her son, who has always been a headache to her, suddenly got inside wielding an axe.

“He was very angry as he entered the kitchen hut and started accusing his mother of being a witch. He then accused her of bewitching him, causing his misery. He then axed her several times all over the body. She collapsed as she bled profusely and died on the spot,” said the family member.

After the attack, Juma tried to flee but family members and neighbours caught up with him.

“They tied him with a rope and took him to Kamativi Police Station, leading to his arrest. He is set to appear in court, facing a murder charge,” said the source close to the investigations.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda, confirmed the incident.

“We would like to urge community members to engage third parties like friends, relatives, pastors or police whenever they are faced with disputes rather than to resort to violence as it leads to unnecessary loss of life,” he said. — B-Metro

Five-year-old raped in church

A RUSAPE teenager was allegedly caught red-handed raping a five-year-old girl in a Rusape pentecostal church recently.

The 16-year-old suspect, who cannot be named since he is also a minor, is said to have been caught by a student pastor, Mr Kudakwashe Mutangi. Photographs of the suspect were taken at the crime scene, before he was handed over to the Rusape Central Police Station.

The scene of the crime was a local church building that is under construction, adjacent to a popular watering hole. Rusape district acting police spokesperson, Sergeant Theresa Maruza, said she wanted to get the finer details of the case before commenting. However, a police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said investigations are in progress.

“It is true that the case was reported here. I think they are doing due diligence because there is a procedure that has to be followed when dealing with accused minors.

“The liberty of the minor takes precedence and, under the circumstances, the police cannot detain the suspect. The suspect was, therefore, handed over to his parent or guardian,” said the police source.

This publication also has in its possession photographs of the suspect and his victim at the crime scene. Pastor Mutangi said he had gone to the church with a colleague for an afternoon prayer, only for him to find the teenager performing the act.

“We passed through one of our churches in Vengere for an afternoon prayer session, but we were shocked to come face to face with the suspect raping the little girl in the church. The suspect was completely naked,” he said.

“He tried to jump through the window, but we ordered him to stop. I rushed to grab his clothes, which were by the corner, so that he could not run away naked,” said Pastor Mutangi.

“This is a place of worship and it was disrespectful for the suspect to sexually abuse the defenceless victim in the church,” he said.

A used condom was retrieved from the scene. The cleric said he called the resident pastor, who used his car to ferry the suspect and the victim to the police station.

“We reported the matter to the police for further investigations, and it emerged that the little girl stays with her granny. From the look of things, this could be the tip of an iceberg,” he said. — Manica Post
