Undeniably the most sought-after Zimdancehall artiste in the country — Winky D — is set to headline this year’s Fallin’16 festival.
The festival — a countdown to the New Year — will once again be held in the resort town of Victoria Falls at the Rest Camp starting on December 29, ending in the wee hours of January 1.
Show organiser, Emma Dreyer of Davies Events said the festival, now in its second edition was a musical event for local artistes and people to express their love of music.
“The event was built on a concept of unity and passion for music. Each artiste is coming to play from their heart, embrace Vic Falls and give everybody the opportunity to dance, jump and feed the their souls with music,” said Dreyer.
“Fallin’ is a locally produced event showing the quality, skills and diversity of Zimbabwean events.”
Speaking through his manager, Jonathan Banda, Winky D said he was excited to be performing in Victoria Falls — a town he last performed in 2014 at the Vic Falls Carnival.
He said the invitation to perform in the resort town could not have come at a better time as he will also use the platform to launch his new album — Gafa Futi —a week after sharing it with fans in Bulawayo at the Kalawa Homecoming party.
“We’re looking forward to the Fallin’ performance as it’s been a while since we last performed there. The festival is a blend of some of the finest DJs who know how to trigger merrymakers — so what better platform to perform than this?
“This is also a home grown event where we’ll entertain a cross section of individuals who’ll be on holiday.”
Other than Winky D, the event will also feature performances by previously announced artistes, Harare’s Circuit Party – a group of DJs and performing artistes, DJs Rax, Raydizz, Rawse, Spevah and Trill Angel.
Dreyer said preparations for the fete were at an advanced stage with equipment for the stage expected to be transported from Harare to Victoria Falls next week.
“Everything is going according to plan and artistes are looking forward to the three nights of non-stop partying in the resort town. Music lovers must prepare to be rocked as this will be a party like no other,” said Dreyer.
She said about two more artistes would be added onto the line-up before they wrap things up.
Tickets have been pegged at $15 for a three-day pass and $75 for three-day VIP access.
