ZIMDANCEHALL prodigy Winky D’s song “Disappear” has not only taken the nation by storm, but is rocking international charts as well. The 32-year-old chanter, who is currently riding high with his “Gafa Life Kickstape” compilation, stepped up to number one on Sunday on the British Broadcasting Corporation Radio 1 Xtra, AfroBoss Top Five African A ‘ Lister’s chart.
The crooner’s hit song “Disappear”, which started off on bottom position in November last year, is now the chart banger ahead of big continental stars like Nigeria’s Wizkid on number five with his track “Final”, South Africa’s multi-award winning producer and DJ Black Coffee’s song “We dance again” on number four while Tanzania’s AY’s song “Zigo” (remix) and Ghana’s dancehall king Shatta Wale with his track “Hol’ It” are on number three and two respectively.
“Disappear”, released in October last year, became an instant hit on the local airwaves and in nightclubs countrywide. Despite the resounding success of his latest album, Winky D, real name Wallace Chirumiko, has, however, been also getting a lot of negative criticism on social media and in mainstream media following the “Abracadabra” chant in his track “Disappear”. This has seen some critics labelling him illuminati.
The illuminati are speculated to be a powerful secret society of satanic cultists that use symbology and practice Illuminati rituals.
Winky D’s manager, Jonathan Banda dismissed all the speculations raised about illuminati and cultism.
He said the feat was evident that the singer was now ready to take on the international arena and take Zimdancehall music to the next level.
“Music trends have changed and Winky D just upped his game with word play that appeals to a diverse audience. This explains its success on the BBC radio.
“The illuminati speculations come in every top biller artiste’s career and we take it as a positive sign that the Ninja President has come of age. It is actually a happy song (Disappear) to encourage people,” said Banda.
Banda said Winky D had already started his countrywide tours and will soon perform in Mutare.
His shows in Harare, Beitbridge and Bulawayo so far recorded historic attendances proving the Bigman’s growing fame.
