Woman aborts pregnancy, buries the foetus

An 18-year-old woman from Pumula South suburb in Bulawayo has been arrested for terminating her pregnancy using abortion pills and burying the foetus.

In a statement on X, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abdenico Ncube confirmed her arrest. “Police in Bulawayo have arrested Celine Ngwenya (18) in connection with termination of pregnancy,”.

Police said the incident took place on 2 November 2024 at a house in Pumula South and Ngwenya buried the foetus in a shallow grave along a stream between Makoni and some shops in Nkulumane.

“The foetus has since been retrieved from the grave and was taken to Mpilo Hospital mortuary for post mortem,” read the statement.
