A 44-YEAR-OLD woman from Magwegwe suburb is seeking assistance to raise US$14 000 for a life saving heart surgery in India following her diagnosis with rheumatic heart disease and suffering two strokes in 2020.
Miss Christina Mandikiyana (44) said the cost of the treatment includes consultation and evaluation pegged US$1 000, the surgery will cost US$8 000 and the implant charge is US$5 000 amounting to USD$14 000. According to hospital documents from Mpilo Central Hospital, Miss Mandikiyana has been under the care of a specialist since January 2020.
“She has a rheumatic heart disease and was admitted previously on the 13th to the 17th of December 2019 after a stroke that left her with right-sided weakness,” read the records.
She then had a recurrence of the same stroke and is currently on medication.
“She had an ECHO scan which was done and the report was that she has a rheumatic valvar heart disease with severe mitral stenosis, severe aortic stenosis, and mild to moderate regurgitation. She has got left ventricular hypertrophy, otherwise normal left ventricle within a fraction of 60 percent. Her left atrium is severely dilated but the heart rate looks even normal with high pulmonary pressure,” further read the medical record.
An echocardiogram, or “echo”, is a scan used to look at the heart and nearby blood vessels.
Well-wishers can contact her husband Mr Trevor Moyo on 0772590184.
