Woman arrested for killing baby

The suspect Sibongile Manda is now assisting police with investigations.

Acting police spokesperson for Midlands, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident, which occurred on Monday last week.

He said the body of the dumped baby was  discovered by a member of an apostolic church who was going for her morning prayers (masowe) in a bushy area near Mkoba Village Six.

“After discovering the burnt body, the apostolic church sect member informed her neighbours who then reported the matter to the police,” he said.

Asst Insp Mahoko said the body had burns raising suspicion that the infant could have been burnt before being dumped.

“The baby had some burns especially on the head. Police investigations later led to the arrest of a teenager, Sibongile Manda, of Mkoba Village Six,” he said.
Asst Insp Mahoko said she would appear in court once investigations have been completed.
