Luwasiyo Mudimba (37) from Chigani village under chief Pashu in Binga, Matabeleland North Province was sentenced to serve 300 hours of community service for assaulting a fellow villager she accused of gossiping about her.
According to the National Prosecution Authority (NPA) Mudimba met Cleopatra Nyoni (27) walking along a footpath and accused her of badmouthing in the community.
The woman became violent and grabbed Nyoni by her throat before she bit off her ear. As if it was not enough, Mudimba bit her in different parts of the body leaving her with scars.
Nyoni bled from the top of the eye and reported the incident to the police. Sensing arrest, Mudimba fled from her home and went into hiding.
Her cover was blown off after police received a tip-off about where she was hiding and pounced on her leading to her arrest.
Mudimba appeared before a Binga magistrate and pleaded guilty to an assault charge.
According to NPA she was sentenced to perform 300 hours of community service.
The NPA urged members of the public to engage third parties such pastors, elders in the community or Victim Friendly Unit (VFU) Police to resolve their disputes amicably.
