ASSAULTING a 12-year-old juvenile, accusing her of having an extra marital affair with her husband landed a Chipinge woman (23) in trouble with the law.
Maria Gumbo who resides at Section 5, Middle Sabi in Chipinge attacked the juvenile with an iron rod and she sustained a deep cut on the forehead and swollen hands. Gumbo pleaded guilty when she appeared before senior Chipinge magistrate, Mr Noah Gwatidzo facing assault charges.
Public prosecutor, Mr Witness Nyamundaya, told the court that Maria Gumbo suspected that the juvenile was having an affair with her husband and attacked her.
‘’On December 10 at around 7am, the juvenile was asleep at her mother’s house when the accused person opened the door and entered the house while holding a metal rod.
“She confronted the juvenile and assaulted her several times with the iron rod. Gumbo accused the juvenile of having an affair with her husband. Gumbo struck the complainant once on the forehead and several times on the hands.
‘’The complainant was medically examined and the doctor concluded that she suffered a deep cut on her forehead and swollen hands as a result of the assault,’’ said Mr Nyamundaya.
Gumbo was remanded in custody to next Monday for sentencing.
