B-Metro Reporter

A SICKENING family horror has come to light in Lupane where a 41-year-old man has been jailed for 20 years after repeatedly raping his mentally incompetent 16-year-old sister in-law.

The Hwange Regional Magistrates’ Court heard the nightmare began when the offender’s sister allegedly pushed the girl into a bedroom where the predator was waiting and locked the door from outside. He stripped the teen and raped her, threatening her and ordering her to keep quiet when she tried to cry for help.

From there, the abuse continued on diverse occasions, with the helpless girl enduring trauma after trauma in silence.
When the truth finally surfaced in May 2025, thanks to a brave community member who noticed signs of abuse, the offender and his sister allegedly assaulted the victim with a sjambok and a stick, warning her not to reveal the heinous crimes.

Prosecutors said the juvenile victim had been staying at the offender’s homestead, a place that should have offered safety but instead became a trap of terror.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the man exploited her vulnerability and his position of trust, assaulting her over a six month period from November 2024 to May 2025.
The court was told that

A police report was made at ZRP Lupane, and medical and psychiatric reports confirming the victim’s status and ordeal were compiled.

The NPAZ commended the community member who intervened and urged communities to report any suspicion of child abuse immediately.
