A Harare woman claims that her husband assaulted her after she caught him cheating.
Lucia Sithole appeared at the Harare Civil Court seeking a protection order against her husband, Jekesai Katigo, due to alleged physical and emotional abuse.
She claimed that her husband assaulted her with a wooden stick on August 6, after she discovered messages between him and his alleged girlfriend.
“On August 6, l saw messages of him talking to his girlfriend and after l confronted him, he took a wooden stick and hit me with it.
“He threatened to cut the sofas and if l was to refuse, he was to kill me. She stated that the abuse began in 2016. He has been in the habit of assaulting me since 2016.”
In response, Jekesai denied the claims, accusing Lucia of being the aggressor and threatening to commit suicide when confronted.
“She is the one who assaults me and she is destroying my furniture and if l confront her, she threatens to commit suicide.
“She also forces me to take care of a child who is not mine. The court must not grant her a protection order because she will keep destroying my property.”
Magistrate Meenal Naratom granted the protection order and recommended that the couple undergo a DNA test to resolve the paternity issue.
