A 33-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo woman got caught snoozing on the job after police allegedly busted her running a dagga business from her shop without a licence.
Precious Moyo from Fort Rixon appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mark Dzira and was remanded in custody until 16 January for trial. She was not asked to plead.
Prosecuting attorney Hazel Ncube told the court that on 6 January, detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics Bulawayo got a tip-off about a man at Renkini Long Distance Bus Terminal near Lions Shop linked to a dagga supply chain.
Acting on the tip, detectives tracked down the man, identified as Derick Tshuma, a truck loader transporting goods from Bulawayo to Fort Rixon.
The detectives introduced themselves and asked to search him and the goods he was guarding. Tshuma consented.
While he was clean, a search of the goods he was holding uncovered a black plastic bag with four transparent packets filled with dagga.
Tshuma told police the stash belonged to a businesswoman with shops in Fort Rixon.
He added that Moyo had given him money to deliver a plastic bag to someone and collect another one in return.
A controlled delivery was arranged.
Tshuma went to Emkhayeni Shops and found Moyo fast asleep inside her shop. He handed over the bag and walked away.
Moments later, detectives swooped on the shop and found Moyo seated, snoozing, on a mattress holding the dagga packets.
She was arrested on the spot.
The recovered dagga, weighing 1 168 grams, had a street value of ZiG6 000.
Moyo and the stash were taken to CID Drugs for further handling.
The case has left locals chuckling over the sleepy businesswoman who dozed through her own dagga deal.
Moyo remains in custody as investigations continue.
