acting Chiredzi Town Council finance director Mr Godfrey Taputsa’s alleged girlfriend reportedly committed suicide at the local authority’s offices on Monday after failing to recover $2 600 from him. Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa yesterday professed ignorance over the case.
But close sources said Sharon Munatsi (49) left two separate suicide notes in which she advised her relatives not to bury her until Mr Taputsa paid back the money. Ms Munatsi further accused Mr Taputsa of having an affair with her since 2015.
“When I die, before Godfrey Taputsa repays my $2 600 which I gave him, don’t bury me. He must do the task and also he has been taking me as his wife since 2015,” she wrote. A family spokesperson Mr Wilson Munatsi said the family had been frustrated by the failure of police to mediate over the impasse.
“As a family, we will stand guided by the letters which were written by our sister. It’s very clear that we must take the body from the mortuary and give it to Taputsa so that he can bury the corpse as he has not made any effort to resolve this matter,” he said. Mr Munatsi said they expected Mr Taputsa to approach the family and explain the circumstances that led to their sister’s death.
“We only wanted to get a clear explanation as to what really transpired at his office, leading to my sister drinking poison. It’s in the best interest of everyone. We are just waiting for the post-mortem from the hospital and we will deliver the body to Taputsa’s residence,” he said. Efforts to get a comment from Mr Taputsa were fruitless since all his mobile numbers were not reachable. He is said to have stopped coming to work on Tuesday. It was also reported that Mr Taputsa was in a relationship with Ms Munatsi, but events turned sour last week when she demanded her money back. The two are said to have had a heated argument on Monday in Mr Taputsa’s office before Ms Munatsi drank the poisonous substance which reportedly killed her on admission at the hospital.
