A 24-year-old woman has been convicted of assault after attacking another woman with an empty beer bottle and slapping her over an argument about why she stepped on her foot at the Palace Hotel in Bulawayo.
Immaculate Ngwenya was found guilty by Bulawayo magistrate Mr Maxwell Ncube after pleading guilty to the charge. She is set to appear in court today for sentencing.
According to prosecutor Ms Mufaro Ndirayire, the incident occurred on 31 January at around 4AM at the Palace Hotel, located at the corner of Jason Moyo Street and 11th Avenue.
Ngwenya allegedly attacked Ms Ellen Moyo, slapping her before smashing a beer bottle on her forehead, causing a deep cut.
In mitigation, Ngwenya told the court that she works in a bar as a prostitute, earning only US$30 per month. She further explained that she has two young children, aged four years and one year, eight months, and is also responsible for taking care of her parents and children.
