A CHIWESHE woman was sentenced to 420 hours of community service for intimidating a Rainbow Coalition Political Party aspiring Member of National Assembly for Mazowe Central in the just-ended harmonised elections.

Anna Mercy Chironga (66) of Mugwanhira Village, Chief Negomo, Chiweshe had not pleaded guilty to the charges, but was, however, found guilty and sentenced to 24 months imprisonment by Bindura magistrate Mrs Vongai Guwuriro.

The magistrate spared Chironga jail time when she suspended 12 months of the sentence on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next five years, while the remaining 12 months were suspended on condition that she performs 420 hours of community service at Muchirikuenda Primary School. Prosecuting, Mr Brighton Korera told the court that on July 21 at around 7am, the complainant, Ellen Mazorodze (61) of Mudimu Village, Chief Negomo, was at Dambatsoko Show Hall with her supporters intending to address them when Chironga arrived at the venue and threatened her.

Mr Korera said Mazorodze felt intimidated and made a report at ZRP Chombira.

He said after learning that the complainant had filed a police report, Chironga and the people she had relocated to Muchirikuenda Primary School in Chiweshe and continued with their programme.
