A HARARE woman took her former lover to the Maintenance Court claiming $60 000 for the upkeep of their young son.

Precious Bwinja claimed her ex-lover, Gift Chari, is refusing to fend for their son.

Gift offered $25 000 and told the court that he remarried and earns $60 000 per month.

“I am a security guard Your Worship, and I’m taking home the amount she is demanding.

“I’m actually surprised that when we came here, I thought we were on the same page since I buy groceries and pay school fees,” he said.

In response, Precious said $25 000 was not enough adding that she once gave him their son to stay with and he refused.

“It’s not enough Your Worship. Our child is enrolled at a school charging US$25 per month.

“I gave him our son to take care of, but he returned him after two days after his wife said she can’t take care of a stepson,” she said.

Presiding magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini ordered Gift to pay $30 000 maintenance fee.
