Woman dies after falling from bed

A pregnant Banket woman and her unborn baby died after the mother fell off a hospital bed.
Joina Randazha Jenami of Dalkieth Farm in Banket died of serious head injuries.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed the incident saying that it was being treated as sudden death.
He said, “We can confirm that we had a report of death in which a woman fell off a bed and sustained head injuries and she died on the spot together with her unborn child.”
Jenami (34) went to Banket District Hospital on February 8 at around 7am for a routine check up in the company of her husband.
The doctor diagnosed high blood pressure and prescribed Misopristol, which the husband reportedly went to buy in Chinhoyi because the hospital did not have it in stock.
When her condition deteriorated, the doctor ordered she be admitted at the maternity ward at around 8.30am.
“The husband returned at around 3pm and the drug was administered to the woman and she went to sleep,” Insp Mabgweazara said.
She reportedly got into labour at around 10pm and was transferred to the labour ward.
However, at around 2.30am, the nurse on duty heard a thud and went to investigate only to find the woman had fallen to the floor.
She had a deep cut above the right eye.
“Efforts to resuscitate her were futile and she bled profusely from a wound above her right eye. They dressed the wound before calling the doctor,” Insp Mabgweazara said.
The doctor noted that her blood pressure was worsening and tried to resuscitate her but she and the baby she was carrying died.
A police report was made and a post-mortem showed she had a ruptured uterus.
