A Kwekwe woman was lucky to escape without a jail sentence when she was asked to perform community work after she was found guilty of kidnapping her neighbour’s two-month-old baby.
Sihle Ndlovu (18), of M1 Torwood in Redcliff, was arraigned before Kwekwe magistrate Mr Livermore Philemon facing charges kidnapping after she disappeared with a baby belonging to her neighbour, Shamiso Sibanda.
She was sentenced to three months in jail, a sentence which was set aside on condition she performs 105 hours of community service at Torwood Primary School.
Presenting the State’s case, the prosecutor, Mr Nyasha Ndoro told the court that on 6 November this year, at around 10am Ndlovu requested to go to Kwekwe town together with the complainant’s two months old baby girl.
Sibanda, the court heard, told Ndlovu that she should bring back the infant at 11am the very time for breast feeding.
Ndlovu, however, failed to turn up with the baby leading to the complainant going around town looking for Sibanda. Having failed to locate Sibanda, Ndlovu filed a police report leading to the arrest of Sibanda the following day at around 3pm. She was subsequently arraigned before the courts where she was sentenced.
