A CHIKANGA man has turned his home into a torture camp after developing a habit of beating up his wife and four children each time he gets drunk.

Jabulani Mangoma (35)’s brutality has compelled his wife, Jesca Karonga to seek recourse at the courts, where she was seeking a protecting order against him.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Xavier Chipato presided over the matter.

Mr Chipato granted the protection order valid for five years.

“My husband has been drinking heavily since he stopped going to work sometime last year. It is like he is punishing me and our children for his redundancy. We are enduring relentless beating every day, which have turned our lives into a living hell. He also assaults my relatives,” she said.

Mangoma denied being abusive to his family, describing the alleged beatings as disciplining them.

“They have stopped according me the respect they used to as the head of the family. When I was still employed they would respect me. They no longer do that. I drink beer, but I am not abusive. I sometimes discipline them,” he said.
