A Harare woman believed to be an accomplice of a truck driver who was arrested a week ago, while transporting dagga worth US$1 200 000 from Beitbridge to Harare appeared in court on Saturday.
Everjoy Concillia Chipfiko (39) was facing unlawful dealing with dangerous drugs charges when she appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Musaiona Shortgame who remanded her in custody to today.
The court heard that on June 1 2026, police received information to the effect that Chipfiko intended to receive an unspecified quantity of dagga being transported by Pogba Transport and Logistics from Beitbridge to Harare by Thapson Ndou, who is currently on remand facing a similar charge.
The information further indicated that Ndou was driving a 30-tonne haulage truck, registration number AFJ 2961, towing a trailer registration number AGK 0535, and transporting a metal container carrying a consignment of dagga.
It was also reported that Chipfiko was driving a Toyota Baby Quantum, registration number unknown, which she intended to use as a gateway vehicle after collecting the dagga for transportation to Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West, where she resides.
Acting upon the information received, police intercepted Ndou’s vehicle at a LIGI Restaurant truck stop, opposite Swift Company, Southerton, Harare. Police approached the vehicle and identified Ndou seated behind the steering wheel.
A search was conducted in the metal container in his presence, resulting in the recovery of numerous sealed cubic plastic packages containing compressed dagga.
It is alleged that Ndou was subsequently arrested and taken to the police station for further management.
Upon being interviewed, Ndou implicated Chipfiko and three accomplices who are still at large namely: Moses Chauke, Prosper Jena, Spiwe Chingindo, and one only known as Victoria, as the owners of the contraband.
The court heard that upon realising that Ndou had been arrested, Chipfiko fled the scene in her gateway vehicle from the vicinity of LIGI Restaurant, Southerton, Harare, thereby evading immediate arrest.
The recovered dagga has an estimated street value of US$1 200 000.
An analysis of records revealed that Chipfiko’s geographical location on June 1 and June 2 was within the Westgate and Southerton area, Harare.
The records indicate that Chipfiko had travelled from Chinhoyi, Mashonaland Central Province, her place of residence, to Harare during the material period.
On June 12, Police arrested Chipfiko in Chinhoyi.
