A DANGAMVURA woman was recently arrested after being found in possession of a bullet.
Victoria Marume (30) of Area 16, Dangamvura pleaded not guilty when she appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Makamera Waini last week and was remanded out of custody to September 12 for continuation of trial.
She was arrested after Criminal Investigations Department details received a tip-off that she was in possession of a bullet.
The CID details went to her house and upon searching they discovered the bullet of a 7,62x 3,9mm AK rifle hidden under bricks in her yard.
The bullet was not licenced and this was in breach of Section 4(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 9:10.
Marume in her defence said: “My husband (Behave Maposa) is a soldier and I found the bullet in one of the pockets of his uniforms while I was doing laundry.
“I informed him since he is away and he told me to put it in a drawer so that he would collect it when he returns,” she said.
Marume said she was not aware that it was a crime to be in possession of a bullet.
Mr Waini told her that ignorance was not a defence before adjourning the matter to September 12.
