A 25 year old woman has been sentenced to six months imprisonment after she set a bank on fire in a ritual she was told to do in order to secure a job.
Panashe Mafura pleaded guilty to malicious damage to property before Harare magistrate Apollonia Marutya.
The complainant was ZB Bank and was represented by Memory Muzochireva.The State represented by Grace Mugocheke proved that on July 23 at around 4pm, Mafura entered ZB Finisure Private Limited and fire on the first floor for an unknown reason.
The fire damaged the door and darkened the walls of a room in the first floor.
The value of the property damaged is US$400.
Muzochireva apprehended and escorted her to Harare Central Police where she was arrested.
In aggravation, Mugocheke argued that Mafura put the lives of the occupants of the building at risk and her actions demonstrated complete disregard of human and property safety.Mafura was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment.Three months were suspended on condition that she restitutes the bank for the property damaged and three other months were suspended on condition that she doesn’t commit a similar offence in the next five years.
Six months are effective.
