Woman jumps off moving vehicle

A ZIMUNYA woman died after she jumped off a moving vehicle, a claim that her relatives have since dismissed suspecting foul play.
Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the incident and said Tracy Mwonzora (69) of Mambondiani Village died from the severe head injuries she sustained when she jumped off the moving kombi.

“Tracy was in a town-bound commuter omnibus which was being driven by a man only identified as Evans and they were coming from Chitakatira Business Centre.

“When they were approaching Gutukunhuwa Village, Tracy opened the window, but the other passengers did not suspect anything. She suddenly jumped out of the moving vehicle and she sustained severe head injuries,” he said.

The driver only knew about it after one of the passengers, Tafadzwa Nemunyadzo (18), raised alarm and informed him that Tracy had jumped off. Evans then ferried Tracy to Mutare Provincial Hospital but she was pronounced dead upon arrival. However, there was drama at her funeral with villagers suspecting foul play.

The body had to be returned to Mutare Provincial Hospital with relatives claiming that some body parts were missing.

A grave that was dug halfway was abandoned with restive relatives demanding an explanation.

In a separate accident, a Rusape man was burnt beyond recognition after the vehicle he was driving overturned and caught fire last week.

Asst Insp Chananda said David Sarudzo had one passenger on board who escaped with minor burns.

“Sarudzo lived in Magamba area and on the fateful day he was travelling along Takunda Road towards Mangoromera Village, in a Toyota Corolla (ACV 8028). When he approached Takunda Dam, he lost control of the vehicle and it veered off the road.

“The vehicle then hit a tree, overturned once and went ablaze. The passenger, Bernard Sarudzo, managed to escape, but David was trapped in the car. He was burnt beyond recognition,” said Asst Insp Chananda.

Bernard was taken to Mutare Provincial Hospital where he is reported to be in a stable condition.
