A WOMAN was struck and killed after she was hit by a wheel which had dislodged from a haulage truck.

Nokutenda Chituri, 20, of House Number 5487, Chiedza, Karoi, was sitting on the roadside when the tragedy occurred last week. Nokutenda was waiting for another haulage truck which was delivering some groceries to her.

Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H-Metro the incident happened on Wednesday last week. “Chituri was hit on the head by one of the two rear wheels of a haulage truck which dislodged and rolled towards her,” Insp Kohwera. “As a result of the impact, Chituri sustained injuries and died on the spot. Investigations are still underway.

“Police Mashonaland West Province continue to urge those in the transport industry to ensure that their vehicles are serviced to avoid loss of life and property.”  Meanwhile, Insp Kohwera said an 11-year-old was struck and killed by lightning at Grantley Mine in Chakari.

“The public is advised to take precautionary measures during this rainy reason to avoid loss of life due to lightning or drowning,” said Insp Kohwera
