A 38-year-old Chinhoyi woman, who was masquerading as a police officer, was arrested for robbing a car dealer in Waterfalls.
Rachel Time’s seven accomplices escaped.
Rachel and the seven men allegedly approached Farad Ngwerume, 41, a car dealer, while he was parked along Chitungwiza Road.
They identified themselves as police officers. They took control of Farad’s vehicle and asked him to direct them to his house where they demanded US$2000.
His friend came and gave them US$780 and the eight sped off in their getaway vehicle.
Farad and his friend gave chase and the robbers veered off the road and hit a tree.
Rachel was arrested and her accomplices escaped.
Harare provincial deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa, confirmed the case.

She appealed for information that might lead to the arrest of the seven suspects.
“Police arrested one of the eight suspects in connection with the robbery,” said Ass-Insp Mapisa.
“The suspects were reported to have approached a motorist and identified themselves as police officers.
“Two of them entered into the complainant’s vehicle and one of the accused persons produced a knife and threatened to stab the complainant if he failed to comply.
“The complainant was forced to sit at the back and one of the accused persons took control of the motor vehicle.
“The accused drove the complainant’s motor vehicle and their Honda Fit was following behind and they were demanding cash.
“They managed to get US$780 and, upon realising that they had been duped, the complainants gave chase.
“One of the suspects was arrested while others escaped following an accident.
“An Itel cellphone, two rolls of rope and a pair of handcuffs were recovered from the accused persons’ vehicle,” said Ass-Insp Mapisa.
