A CHITUNGWIZA woman, and her two suppliers, were arrested on Friday for selling stolen goat meat.
Gamuchirai Bushu, 22, of Unit D, Seke, was found with 14 heads of Boer goats, hooves, intestines and four guinea fowls at her house.
Gamuchirai said the goats and guinea fowls were stolen by a man only identified as Jerry and his accomplice Marshal Mawonedzo, who is also her co-tenant.
The stock belongs to a Seke woman Juliet Matekenya, 62, of Chitsvatsva Village.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest of the three following a tip-off.
“At around 1430 hours, operatives received a tip-off to the effect that there were some culprits who were skinning suspected stolen goats at a house in Unit D, Seke.
“Operatives teamed up with charge office details and reacted to the given information.
“Upon arrival, the operatives found only a female suspect.
“Searches were conducted leading to the recovery of 14 goat heads, hooves, intestines and four guinea fowls in the accused’s house.
“The recoveries led to the arrest of the woman who disclosed that the goats were slaughtered at her house on the same day at around 0400hours after being brought by one of the accused persons.
“Police engaged other neighbouring stations, including ZRP Dema, and it was subsequently confirmed that they have a case of stock theft that occurred at Chitsvatsva Village, Seke.”
He added:
“Details from ZRP Dema brought the complainant who positively identified the heads of the 14 Boer goats and she disclosed that the stolen goats were 17, in total, and seven guinea fowls.
“The total value stolen was US$2100 and investigations are continuing,” said Insp Chakanza.
Police established that a number of people in areas like Dema, Mahusekwa and Beatrice have been losing their stock to thieves who are selling them to Chitungwiza and Harare butcheries and individuals.
