POLICE in Chipinge have arrested a 38-year-old woman who was allegedly found carrying nearly nine kilogrammes of dagga along the Ngundu–Tanganda Road.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the arrest of Rumbidzai Rufefe, of Chishingwi Village under Chief Marange, who was intercepted by police officers at Manyezu bus stop while allegedly transporting four bags containing the illicit drug.
The police had received information that the woman was allegedly carrying bags containing dangerous drugs.
“On March 4, 2026, at around 8am, police at ZRP Middle Sabi received a tip-off to the effect that the accused person was walking along the Ngundu–Tanganda Road carrying bags suspected to contain dangerous drugs. Acting on the information, police quickly mobilised and moved to intercept the suspect. The informant teamed up with four police officers and they proceeded to the scene where they managed to intercept the accused person at Manyezu bus stop,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka, adding that upon searching the suspect’s bags, the cops discovered several packages containing loose dagga.
Rufefe was immediately arrested and taken into custody.
The recovered drugs were taken for weighing to Grain Marketing Board Chipangayi Depot, where they weighed 8.6 kilogrammes.
The drugs have since been secured at the police station and will be used as exhibits in court once the matter proceeds to trial.
Rufefe is expected to appear in court soon to face charges of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs.
