|POSSESSING 9kgs of mbanje saw a Nyanga woman being jailed for 30 months. Tsitsi Nyamate (37) appeared before Mr Langton Mukwengi, while Mr Kelvin Mufute prosecuted.
Mr Mufute said Nyamate was arrested at Mbare Musika in Harare after being trekked by detectives from Nyanga.
Mr Mufute told the court that sometime last week, detectives from Nyanga Criminal Investigation Department were manning a roadblock at Troutbeck Turn-off when the bus in which the accused was arrived.
“The CID officers conducted a search on the Mukumba Bus (REG Number ABN 3376) and discovered a red and white bag containing loose mbanje. They then hatched a plan and instructed detectives who were not manning the roadblock to board the bus and monitor the bag and they did so after receiving full details concerning the bag,” said Mr Mufute.
“On arrival at Mbare Bus Terminus at around 12.45pm, the conductor ordered all passengers to collect their luggage. The accused then disembarked and went straight to get her bag and left.
“However, after walking for a short distance, the detectives followed and arrested her for possessing the illicit drug,” added Mr Mufute.
Nyamate was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment, six of which were suspended on condition she does not commit a similar crime in the next five years
