Woman seeks protection order against neighbour

INCESSANT insults over witchcraft from her neighbour left a Mutare woman with no option but to approach the courts seeking protection.

Jean Chimbonya appeared before Mrs Yeukai Chigodora praying for protection against Creed Rapai who continuously accuses her of being a witch.

Chimbonya said: “I have had enough of my neighbour’s insults. She accuses me of being a witch and as a result I am having nightmares. I am not a witch and how can someone stand there and accuse me as if she caught me red handed.

“She always provokes me and at some point in August, I went to report the matter to Chisamba police station. After receiving counseling, Creed apologized and promised that she was going to desist from that habit.

“She then went on to tell her younger sister that I am a witch and her younger sister has a tendency of pointing at me as a witch and I don’t have peace.’’

However, Creed disputed ever accusing Chimbonya as a witch. “When I apologised before the police I was apologizing for provoking her not for accusing her of witchcraft.

“We don’t provoke her and we are surprised why she is saying that before the court.”

One witness who accompanied Chimbonya to court said: “I went to seek advice at Chimbonya’s homestead since she is a village community worker. I saw Creed and her younger sister dragging Chimbonya on her collar accusing her that she had bewitched them.

“I am not a relative of Chimbonya but the way Creed acted left me with no option but to convince Chimbonya to seek protection.

“Young ladies should respect the elders and not take advantage of their old age and accuse them as witches and continuously insult them.’’

MrsYeukaiChigodora granted the protection order in favour of Chimbonya.
