Mashonaland East assistant provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Tendai Mwanza, yesterday confirmed the incident.
“The incident occurred at around 10pm at the suspect’s homestead in Chakamwata Village,” he said.
He said on the fateful day, Masuwaka was on her way home when Matema followed her in a bid to persuade her to reconcile.
She turned down the proposal.
The two walked until they reached Masuwaka’s homestead.
“Masuwaka got into her house and Matema is reported to have forced himself inside resulting in an altercation. Masuwaka tried to push Matema outside the house but he resisted and in the process she took a kitchen knife before stabbing him once on the left side of the rib cage,” Sgt Mwanza said.
Chantelle Chikerema (19) heard the noise and went to investigate. She saw Masuwaka holding a kitchen knife while Matema was lying on the floor bleeding profusely.
A report was made to the police who took Elisen to hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission.
