A 21-YEAR-OLD woman from Pumula East suburb in Bulawayo who violently stabbed her uncle four times in November this year following a misunderstanding has been slapped with 22 months imprisonment for domestic violence.
Loice Muzembe pleaded guilty before Western Commonage magistrate, Ms Skhethile Moyo.
Six months of the sentence was suspended on condition that she does not commit a similar offence within the next five years.
Another 16 months were suspended on the condition she performed 560 hours of community service.
Ms Moyo in passing the sentence said the court took into consideration that Muzembe is a first-time offender, and she pleaded guilty therefore not wasting the court’s time.
“Cases of domestic violence are on the increase in the western suburbs therefore, there is a need to deter would-be offenders and show them that the law does not tolerate such behaviour” said Ms Moyo.
Presenting the State case, the prosecutor Mr Tafara Dzimbanhete said the incident happened on 23 November when the offender went missing at around eight in the evening leaving her three-year-old daughter with her uncle Mr Tomuda Muzembe.
“Mr Muzembe tried to look for his niece and managed to locate her at around 11 at night,” he said.
“When I located her I asked her where she had gone to, and she became violent and grabbed a kitchen knife which she used to stab me four times on the upper back” said Mr Muzembe.
Mr Muzembe sustained deep cuts on his back as a result of the violence.
